Transradial amputation is the partial amputation of the arm below the elbow along the radial bone. This type of surgery leaves the elbow and most of your arm intact, which makes recovery easier and makes it more likely that you will be able to continue to use your arm even after the amputation.

A standard prosthesis is made of conventional component parts that create the leg and prosthetic foot. These parts are connected to a socket that fits over the residual limb.
What is the function of the socket?
The socket allows the prosthetic device to connect to the residual limb. An additional layer, called a liner, fits over the residual limb and provides a barrier between the skin and the socket. The liner provides cushion and comfort while providing a better fit for the socket.
