An ovarian cystectomy is a surgery to remove a cyst from the ovary. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs or pockets in an ovary or on the surface. These are about the size and shape of almonds on each side of the uterus.
Most of the women may have an ovarian cyst which will cause little to no symptoms. However, if a cyst is causing painful or discomforting feelings, surgical removal of the cysts may be the best treatment option.
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique that only uses a few small incisions in the lower abdomen. In this procedure, a laparoscope which is a thin tube with a camera on the end – is inserted into the abdomen, usually at the site of the navel, through a small incision. Additional incisions will be made on the abdomen. Surgical instruments will be used to remove the cyst.
The incisions in the abdomen will be closed with skin adhesive or stitches. These adhesive or stitches will dissolve on their own. If there are small bandage strips on the incisions, they will fall off on their own. Do not soak the incisions in the bathtub or go swimming.
Symptoms of an Ovarian Cyst
The ovarian cyst may be defined by the following symptoms:
Treatment will depend on: the person's age, whether they have undergone menopause or not, the size and appearance of the cyst and
whether there are any symptoms.
Surgery may be recommended if: there are symptoms, the cyst is large or appears to be growing, the cyst does not look like a functional cyst and the cyst persists through 2 to 3 menstrual cycles.
Two types of surgeries are usually conducted:
Laparoscopy or keyhole surgery:
Here, the surgeon uses very small tools, to remove the cyst through a small incision. In most cases, the patient can go home the same day. This type of surgery does not usually affect fertility, and recovery times are fast.
Laparotomy:
This may be recommended if the cyst is cancerous. A longer cut is made across the top of the pubic hairline. The cyst is removed and sent to the lab for testing. The patient usually stays in the hospital for at least 2 days.

When to have the surgery?
If a cyst is causing the painful or discomforting situation, surgical removal of the cysts is the best treatment option. Some symptoms of an ovarian cyst include pelvic pain, especially during the period.
How are ovarian cysts diagnosed?
Sometimes ovarian cysts may be noticed during a clinical examination of the pelvis. They are often diagnosed during an ultrasound examination or a TVS or transvaginal ultrasound is better than an abdominal ultrasound for determining the size and appearance of ovarian cyst.
What is the possibility during recovery?
After the procedure, it is normal for the navel area and abdomen to be sore and bruised. Also, the shoulders and back may hurt coupled with some vaginal discharge or spotting after surgery.

I first discovered Medtravels when I was doing online research looking for treatment of PCOD. I have lived with the pain and discomfort for more than a couple of years now which had affected my personal and social life. But Radiofrequency ablation treatment for me has come as a blessing indeed and in just one day I could feel the improvement, the pain was gone and I could walk easily. I was nervous about traveling half way around the world to have the surgery, but upon my arrival the staff put all my worries at ease. The pre-op tests performed on me in India were tests never performed on me in the United States. Thanks again to your team.
