Cataract surgery is generally a procedure that is done to remove the lens of the eye and often replacing it with an artificial lens. A cataract usually causes the lens to become cloudy which eventually affects the vision. It is performed on an outpatient basis, which means it does not require admission to the hospital after the surgery. Cataract surgery is very common and is generally a safe procedure. Cataract surgery is performed to treat cataracts that can cause blurry vision and also increase the glare from lights.
In cataract surgery, the lens inside the eye that has become cloudy is removed and replaced with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens, or IOL to restore clear vision.
