Orchiopexy also referred to as ‘Orchidopexy’ is a surgery that helps to move an undescended or ‘Cryptorchid’ testicle into the scrotum and permanently fixes it there. Orchiopexy typically also describes the surgery used to resolve testicular torsion.
There are two conditions that may need an Orchiopexy in order to correct, undescended testicle and testicular torsion. This procedure is usually conducted in childhood to correct undescended testicles to prevent any future complications such as infertility and increased risk of testicular cancer.
Generally, the stay in the hospital is very short and most patients are released the same day, however, it depends on the patient. It usually takes a few weeks after surgery to ensure proper healing.
